Bay Street Encourages Texting & Shopping, Not Texting & Driving
Bay Street Emeryville is perfectly happy if young shoppers want to text and shop—the center just wants to convince them not to text and drive. To help bring that message home, the center recently held a concert that promoted safe texting. The concert was held in partnership with AT&T’s “It Can Wait” program, which encourages teens to pledge against texting & driving.
The shopping center wanted to send teen shoppers back to school armed with information on how they can better manage their texting, and be safe on the road in their cars, and they enlisted the help of Drake Bell of Nickelodeon’s “Drake & Josh” TV series.
Drake spoke out against texting & driving at the concert, and held an autograph session with fans. The event was free, but young shoppers who wanted to guarantee a chance to meet Drake could spend $20 for a VIP meet & greet, with all proceeds going to charity.
The concert also had a selfie booth and other fun stuff. Center representatives handed out scratch cards that supplied teens with helpful hints on how to avoid texting and driving, as well as the chance to win a $500 shopping spree, gift cards to Bay Street retailers, and back to school gear.
