The next Rachel Zoe?

326fashion.gifAs part of the 8 Days of Fashion Heaven event, Pacific Fair Shopping Centre is holding a Style Off.

To enter, participants must send in a photo of themselves or friends styled in an iconic look for the Winter 2009 fashion season. The eight finalists will get to hand pick fashions from Pacific Fair retailers to style models for a live runway show.

The winner will get a $1500 Pacific Fair gift certificate, and the chance to assist a fashion editor on a fashion shoot.

We suspect the shopping center might have a tough time finding another Rachel Zoe (a celebrity stylist famous for sharing the red-carpet spotlight with her clients), but the event sounds like a ton of fun nonetheless.

Married at the Mall, Part Two

0326wedding.gifEarlier this year we wrote about Kingdom Shopping Centre’s contest to be married at the mall. Now the lucky couple who’ll be married at the shopping center, in front of friends, family, and total strangers, have been chosen.

Euan Crawford entered the competition without his partner, Laura MacDonnel, knowing. The couple weren’t planning to marry because they didn’t feel they could afford a wedding in this economy. So when they won the competition, it gave him the chance to pop the question with a very unique plan. Luckily for him, she accepted.

We wish the lucky couple all the best for their July 4th wedding!

How's your spelling?

0326spelling.gifThat’s what The Galleria in Florida, USA is asking its shoppers next month.

The shopping center is offering up The Big People Spelling Bee – a spelling bee for people 21 and over. Registration costs $25, and proceeds go to promote literacy through Reach Out and Read Broward. All registered participants will receive a $20 gift card to The Galleria, so the registration fee is anything but prohibitive.

The competition will be fierce, and the elimination rounds fast and furious. The winner will take home a $1000 prize, so there won’t be any shortage of people willing to give it their best shot.

Taking care of Teens

0326health.gifErin Mills Town Centre in Ontario, CA shows concern for an important demographic.

The shopping center is hosting the Living Healthy Wellness Fair for Teens on April 14. The fair is being delivered by Credit Valley Hospital professionals, who will help inform teens about topics that include healthy sexuality, addiction, pregnancy, Internet safety, sports safety and healthy relationships.

The event couldn’t be timelier: North American teens are talking about healthy relationships more than ever right now thanks to the well-publicized troubles of young pop stars Rihanna and Chris Brown. It’s a great opportunity to engage their curiosity and teach them what to watch out for.

Water for all

0326water.gifCause Marketing: Cause Marketing is the art of combining your commercial brand with a non-profit issue. Cause marketing campaigns have years of history and range from relatively superficial tactical partnerships, to long-term, strategic alliances that penetrate deeply into business and nonprofit organizations.

March 22 was World Water Day. The theme for this year’s World Water Day was clean water and sanitation for civilian in combat zones, but the larger issue is that over a sixth of the world’s population lacks clean drinking water.

Oxfam-Québec was at Montreal Eaton Centre to encourage shoppers to take action and demand water for all. The shopping center encouraged shoppers to calculate their own water consumption, an excercise that usually brings startling results.

Have a few minutes to watch something cool? Here’s a video about World Water Day:
