Inland Center treats the troops
Inland Center, in California, US, is teaming up with AdoptaPlatoon Soldier Support Effort™ to make Valentine’s Day a little nicer for U.S. Servicemen and women overseas.
The shopping center is collecting personalized, pre-made Valentine’s Day cards to send to the troops. The cards can help soldiers feel supported and connected to the world back home.
The shopping center is also collecting supplies to send, as many basic necessities are small luxuries are hard to come by, and not every soldier has a family to send care packages.

Crossgates gives away a special prize
Cause Marketing: Cause Marketing is the art of combining your commercial brand with a non-profit issue. Cause marketing campaigns have years of history and range from relatively superficial tactical partnerships, to long-term, strategic alliances that penetrate deeply into business and nonprofit organizations.
Crossgates Shopping Centre used its Christmas newsletter to do a little good this year. Young shoppers entered a competition by naming all of Santa’s reindeer. One young boy answered correctly and won the big prize: his very own reindeer.
Or rather, a reindeer sponsored in his name. Crossgates is paying for the care and feeding of the reindeer, Wallace, for a year, and the young winner will receive regular updates.
Just another little way to make shoppers happy and make a difference at the same time.

Cadbury embraces the unusual
Viral Marketing: Also known as Word of Mouth Advertising. Any strategy that encourages individuals to pass on a marketing message to others, thus creating the potential for exponential growth in the message’s exposure and influence. Just like viruses, such strategies take advantage of rapid multiplication to explode the message to thousands, even to millions.
Cadbury knows that it has a good thing going. Working with A Glass and a Half Full Productions has brought them massive viral success with the Gorilla ad (this version without sound, apparently due to a copyright claim), and hopefully this new, extremely weird video will do the same:

St David's 2 reaches new heights
The BBC has a great article about St David’s 2 in Wales reaching a major milestone in its development. But this isn’t an article just to be read. Follow this link to be treated to the entire construction of St David’s 2 in approximately 2 minutes. You might have seen a shopping center going up over time, but this time-lapse video is something else entirely.

Planning ahead for summer?
Exchange Tower in Ontario, CA found that it was losing food court customers to nearby eateries on hot summer days. To combat this trend last summer, the center came up with a clever promotion that succeeded at bringing in a lot of attention.
The “Bean Out to Lunch Lately?” promotion offered shoppers a reward for their lunchtime loyalty. Small packages with jellybeans and a printed “passport” were handed out to visitors. The passport was a stamp card for food court retailers. If shoppers ate at six different food retailers over a three week period and got their passports stamped to prove it, they’d receive a free ice cream treat to fight the heat, and they’d automatically be entered into a $500 draw.
As an added bonus, the cards could be registered online for a daily $50 draw. Exchange Tower saw great results from this – a 73% increase in website traffic, and a 36% redemption rate for the passport.
